If I want my weight to go down, I know I only have two choices: I can consume less calories, exercise more, or both. I know better than to attempt anything else. I do NOT buy diet food, diet shakes, or any weight loss products. I don't count calories, weight my food, or track anything. I don't try to do a brutal workout routine. I just go about my normal day tweaking a few of my habits.

Let's start with the first meal of the day: I'll have a grapefruit and three eggs with salsa- instead of a bowl of oatmeal. I know the eggs and grapefruit has less calories than the oatmeal. When it comes to food, that's all I do. Do you see how simple that really is? I do not try to go hungry. I do not eat tiny portions. I don't take any diet pills to suppress my appetite.

All I do is adjust my habits.

The rest of my day is just like that. A a few hours later, I'll have a bowel of fruit instead of something like peanuts. Again, because the fruit bowel has fewer calories. And the fewer calories that go in, the less work I have to do physically to burn them off. I just repeat this for my other five or six meals.

Do you see how it's .all in your little daily habits?

It's going on a special "fat burning" diet that makes it hard. It's counting points, fat grams, or calories that makes losing weight so much work that most people give up. When you see your unhealthy habits, and change your weight gain ones to weight loss ones, you will wonder how you ever made looking younger, losing weight, getting fit, and feeling better about yourself so complicated.

Weight loss, fitness, and longevity are not in what you buy, they are all in what you do. Buying products and expecting them to fix your habits is expecting the impossible. Even if you lose weight on a commercial diet plan, statistics prove that most people are eventually going to end up weighing even more!

Now lets talk about exercise. Do you have to work out to lose weight? No. But it will help because you are burning more calories. If you want to burn a lot of calories, then you need a hard work out routine. In my case, I work out for around twenty minutes. Why can I exercise in such a short time? Because during the day I ate foods that did not have lots of calories.

You can make this easy too.

All you have to do is acknowledge the cause and effect between your habits and your weight. If you refuse to see or change the habits, you will make losing weight and getting in better shape impossible.

No matter what your age, you can learn how to change your weight gain habits to weight loss ones. It all depends on how bad you want to succeed here. If you now eat four donuts for breakfast, and refuse to change that to bacon and eggs, you will make losing weight much more difficult than it has to be.

Success is the result of your health habits.

It's all in your mind. You have to see your habits as they are, and do something about them. It's that simple. Nothing else will work. When you go to lose weight, it really doesn't matter what you eat [natural food will just make it A LOT easier]. All you have to do is burn off more calories than you consume. It works the same way with exercise, it doesn't matter which exercises you do, all that matters is you somehow burn calories. I don't have a workout "routine." I simply do exercises that I like. Some days I'll go for a walk or short jog. Most days I use an old stair stepper machine for twenty minutes so I can read the news or watch music videos.

For my strength training days [I do three days of cardio and three days of strength training] I'll do whatever I feel like doing. Some days just push ups and sit ups. Every other day I'll train with barbells. Since I'm not training to be a bodybuilder, I don't worry about how much weight I'm working out with. If I have time, maybe I'll lift for 30 minutes by throwing in a few more exercises.

All that matters is you make a few basic and common sense weight loss and fitness choices a habit. Then you let the scale tell you if what you're doing is working. If you're losing about a pound or two a week, you're fine. Just keep doing what you're doing. If the scale won't budge, all you can do is tweak your habits so you're a little more active and you're eating fewer calories [not less food, less calories].

Wiley Farrell writes about health and fitness.
